Helping Loose Tooth Pain

Posted on 2/15/2017 by Sundberg Office
A woman suffering from a loose tooth causing pain.
When you have a tooth that gets loose, it can become quite painful. Instead of suffering from pain on your own, you should go in and see your dentist about what is causing the tooth to be loose in the first place.

If your tooth is loose due to an accident and you simply have to wait for the tooth to heal for it to become solid again, then the only thing left is for you to manage the pain.

How to Manage the Pain of a Loose Tooth

If your dentist didn't give you anything for the pain, chances are, the loose tooth is minor. That means, you may be able to use ibuprofen or acetaminophen to manage the pain. However, if you do not like using those medications, there are other options.

You can buy an over-the-counter analgesic that can numb the pain from nearly all drug stores. They can be used on anyone from teething infants to adults, and everyone in between. You can also try using a mixture of a little mustard oil and salt.

You massage that on to your gums, leave it for 1-2 minutes, then rinse with plain water. It is said to tighten the gums up and hold the loose tooth more firmly in place.

Making sure you are in regular contact with your dentist when you have a loose tooth is imperative to it healing properly. The more you talk with your dentist, the more likely you are to notice anything minor when it is still a fixable problem.

Take the time to contact our office if you have any concerns over loose teeth and see what your dentist suggests. Then, you can take that advice home and keep your teeth healthy and in their proper places.
