Cosmetic Dentistry Portland, OR
Believe it or not, your smile is a key component of the opinions that others form about you. Any flaws in your smile, no matter how minor they may seem, can instantly leave the wrong impression, even before you are given a chance to speak. At Sundberg Center for Dentistry, we can fix the imperfections in your teeth, giving you a beautiful smile, with cosmetic dentistry.
There are numerous factors that can contribute to tooth discoloration – the foods and beverages you consume, smoking, medications. When your teeth are discolored, it can cause you to look much older than you are. At Sundberg Center for Dentistry, we offer two types of teeth whitening services – in-office and take-home trays – both of which are designed to restore the bright white color to your tooth enamel.
Our in-office whitening procedure is done in a single visit and takes only about an hour of your time. It is also completely pain-free. After we clean your teeth, we apply a protective gel to your gums. A bleaching agent is then applied to the surfaces of your teeth and left exposed to a light source for an hour. The light activates the active ingredients in the bleaching agent and enhances the effects.
If you prefer to whiten on your own time, we offer to take home trays. These trays are custom created for you based on molds of your mouth. We also provide you with the bleaching agent. The trays are designed to be worn for up to an hour twice a day. While the results take longer (about a week or so), the results are just as stunning.
Even the smallest imperfections in your teeth can affect the quality of your smile. Veneers are an excellent option for restoring the appearance of your teeth when they have been afflicted by minor flaws – chips, cracks, gaps, slight overlapping, discoloration. Veneers are thin shell-like structures that cover the front portions of your visible teeth. They require a small portion of your enamel to be removed to provide a natural fit and are custom created based on molds of your mouth. Veneers are typically made from porcelain or ceramic. Both of these materials mimic many of the properties of your natural enamel, including its color and the way it reflects light.
When your teeth have suffered more serious damage, such as cracks or chips that extend into the enamel, not only is your appearance affected but so too is your oral health. To restore the appearance of your damaged teeth and restore their strength, avoiding the need for a tooth extraction, we can provide you with ceramic crowns. Crowns are “caps” that cover the entire visible surface of your damaged teeth. They hold damaged teeth together, provide them with strength, and protect them from infection. Because the crown covers the entire tooth, more of your enamel needs to be removed than with veneers. Crowns are custom created based on molds of your mouth. Once set in place, your replacement crown will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. All anyone will notice is your beautiful smile.
